  4. Welcome to Visual DialogScript!
  5. -------------------------------

  7. Thank you for trying Visual DialogScript, the simple program development
  8. tool for Microsoft Windows.  Visual DialogScript has been designed
  9. to allow you to quickly develop simple dialog-based programs or batch
  10. files for Windows 95 with the same ease as you might have written a batch
  11. file or a Basic program for DOS.
  12.  
  13. The DialogScript language is easy to learn and similar to, though much more
  14. powerful than, a batch language or macro language. Visual DialogScript also
  15. includes visual tools: a Dialog Editor for designing dialog boxes visually,
  16. and an Icon Editor for creating graphical icons for your programs.  There
  17. is also a Dialog Wizard which generates the code automatically from your
  18. visually designed dialog. Many useful DialogScript programs can be written
  19. in a matter of minutes!

  21. If you are new to Visual DialogScript, try the short Tutorial, then take a
  22. few minutes to read through the User Guide section of the online manual.
  23. This explains how the program works and covers basic concepts of the
  24. DialogScript programming language. There are also several examples which
  25. you can try out by cutting the code from the help file, pasting it into the
  26. editor window, and running it.

  28. If you are upgrading from WinScript look at the section titled
  29. 'Upgrade Notes', which lists the things that are new or different about
  30. Visual DialogScript 2.0. You can use the same serial number that you
  31. received for WinScript 2.0 to register Visual DialogScript.

  34. Installation
  35. ------------

  37. If you haven't already done so, run the program SETUP.EXE, which will
  38. copy the program files to the desired directory and create an entry
  39. on the Windows 95 Start Menu for the Visual DialogScript development
  40. environment.

  42. You may want to move the runtime engine DSRUN.EXE to the Windows System
  43. directory, or alternatively to add the location of your Visual DialogScript
  44. directory to your PATH statement. This is only necessary if you will be
  45. running DialogScript executables from directories other than the one in
  46. which the runtime engine is located.

  48. Removing Visual DialogScript from your system
  49. ---------------------------------------------

  51. Visual DialogScript adds files to no other directories than its own.  To
  52. remove it, simply delete all the files in the Visual DialogScript directory
  53. and then remove the directory.

  55. Registry entries used by the Visual DialogScript development environment
  56. are stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JMTech\DialogScript\2.0.

  58. Registering Visual DialogScript
  59. -------------------------------

  61. We hope you like Visual DialogScript and find it useful.  However, please
  62. be aware that Visual DialogScript is not free or public domain software.
  63. You are granted a licence giving limited rights to use the software.  The
  64. conditions of use are described in the Licence Agreement in the online
  65. help.

  67. This version of Visual DialogScript is fully functional.  However, while it
  68. remains unregistered the software will display its startup screen for an
  69. extra six seconds, with a gentle reminder that the software is still
  70. unregistered.  Also, any EXE programs you create will display a message
  71. that they were created using an unregistered copy of the product when they
  72. terminate.

  87. Multi-platform support
  88. ----------------------

  90. This version of Visual DialogScript can create both 32-bit and 16-bit
  91. executable files. DialogScript executables require the appropriate runtime
  92. engine DSRUN.EXE (32-bit) or DSRUN16.EXE (16-bit). Either runtime is freely
  93. redistributable, without royalties, in accordance with the terms and
  94. conditions set out in the file DSRUN.TXT.

  96. The 16-bit runtime is not included in the package, so you will not be able
  97. to run any 16-bit programs that you create. To obtain it we recommend that
  98. you get it from our World Wide Web site to ensure you have the latest
  99. version.
